July 9, 2000 Hi Brenda & Bill, 74 miles, Florence to Eugene, Ore. Yesterday, we — the Dos, Sarvers, and Williamses — spent a LONG day in the van crossing Idaho and Oregon. A lot of desolate desert. But much prettier once we got into western Oregon. Met the Ulmers at the hotel in Eugene but reservations were screwed up and Ulmers' luggage was lost. The Dos and Williamses had to find a different hotel due to the mixup. We were pretty irritated but found a very friendly place. This AM, we all met up, got the lost luggage, and headed for the coast. We walked in the COLD surf and then went back into town to start the ride. Said goodbye to Sarvers and Ulmers who were headed up Highway 101. It was a good ride today. Long but gradual climbs, a great peaceful, pretty loop between Noti and Eugene. Only scary part was the tunnel — luckily there was little traffic as we went through. Love, Paula.
