July 9, 1998

Hi Brenda & Bill,

67 miles from Blacksburg to Wytheville. Very hilly but not too mountainous. Yesterday we saw a few eastbound cyclists. All retired people. One from San Diego and the others from Oregon. All started in early May. We didn’t start out today until 1:30. Yesterday at 6 PM the wheel that the Williamses needed was in Clarksville, Ind. At noon today, it was in Blacksburg. 18 hours! What a country! FedEx man didn’t know what we were so excited about. We even took his pictures.

Cycling is the only hobby/sport that allows you to sit on the front porches of hundreds of country stores all over the country and talk to local people. Today’s great store was in Draper. The owners just bought a place in Dubois, Wyo., where we spent the Fourth of July in 1991.

Love, Paula.
