July 10, 2000 Hi Brenda & Bill, 95 miles, Eugene to Sisters, Ore. Well, we made it. Hopefully, one of the toughest days is over. We climbed almost 5000 feet to McKenzie Pass. Took us all afternoon. The reward was the 15-mile downhill into Sisters. It was a well-earned reward after going 5 miles an hour for 22 miles which didn't start until we'd already ridden about 60 miles. The first 60 miles were somewhat easy. We followed the beautiful McKenzie River up most of the way. For lunch we ate at McKenzie Bridge at The Log Cabin Inn. It was almost a gourmet lunch, eaten out on the porch, surrounded by beautiful gardens. I asked the gardener what one plant was — it was a rose campion. I intend to plant some at home. Before we left, she brought me one in a pot. She was so nice! But I had to return it. No way could I carry it on the bike. Watched a hummingbird feeding while we ate. Love, Paula. |
