July 11, 1991 Dear Grandmama, Since the Black Hills were too narrow and dangerous to ride in, Diane drove us in her pickup about 40 miles to Mule Creek Junction and we rode the remaining 47 miles to Lusk. We saw the same traffic guy who gave us a ride through the construction on Tuesday. He was pretty surprised to see us back. But at least Diane got us through the construction zone today. We rode about 25 miles to Hat Creek and pulled under the porch of an abandoned store and took a nap. It was cool and quiet in the shade. Then we came back to Lusk and camped with Bob and Dorothy again at BJs Campground. They were surprised to see us too. They are really funny. Gave us big slices of apple pie. I spent most of the evening reading a book after we ate a huge dinner. Tomorrow, on to Nebraska! Love, Paula |
