Dear Grandmama,

Today we rode from Lusk to Ft. Robinson near Crawford, Neb. It was only 55 miles and tomorrow will be close to 100 miles but there was no place to camp farther up the road today. Ft. Robinson is a great camp site. It has shade, buffalo, hotel, cabins, horse trails, etc. We started out early this morning because of a storm was brewing. We packed up and made it to the restaurant just as it hit. They said it’s real unusual to have rain in the morning. We sat at breakfast for two hours waiting for it to clear up. We finally started off but had to pull off again. We stopped at some abandoned buildings near Lode, Wyo. One ended up being a one-room schoolhouse — run down and dirty but still with a few desks and, in a cabinet, lots of old text books. I’d love to have a few. Don’t know why they were still there. The day’s ride seemed kind of long ’cause we kept stopping — my shoe’s cleat broke, we ate in Harrison, took pictures at the Nebraska border. Glad we are out of Wyoming. Already the terrain is changing.

Love, Paula
