Hi Brenda & Bill,

It’s official — we can stand, push as hard as possible, remain upright and go 3 mph. We climbed more mountains today. Tough! Climbed up through hollows where people etched a little spot out of the mountainside. Lots of hunting dogs and fighting cocks. Rode 71 miles from the Breaks to Hindman, Ky. Got a late start due to fog. Had a great stop at a tiny store in Stewart, Ky. Met the Bollings — an elderly man (and his son) who kept the store. Filled us in on local history and their family. For example, all people are buried facing east [because] the Bible says Jesus will come from the east. Staying in a wonderful, cozy place in Hindman called the Quiltmaker Inn. It’s like a B&B but no breakfast. $22 a night. The owner talked to us for hours about local history and family. Name is Orgus Seals. Quilts all over the place.

Luckily it’s Sunday. Usually our route would be loaded with coal trucks but little traffic today.

Love, Paula.
