Dear Grandmama,

Last night we stayed up a little later talking to a couple — Joane and Mark from Texas. We first met them in Yellowstone at Fountain Paint Pot and ran into them again at Ft. Robinson. So coincidental. They were traveling by car and had bikes for day trips. We swapped stories till about 9:30. Usually we are in bed a little after 9:00. I was sorry to leave Ft. Robinson but we were on the road and in Crawford ready to eat at 6 AM. Then we climbed! Into the wind, again! Someone told us we’d have to climb onto the high plains. We had our first sight of corn.

We get into Bridgeport on the North Platte River 101 miles later. It was 5 PM — a long day, but we felt pretty good. The only campground there didn’t have facilities so we decided to find a Catholic church, go to Mass and then see if we could put up our tent. We found All Souls Church and had to wait until almost 6:30 for Fr. Reggie. He was very nice but didn’t want us to camp there. But he offered us showers. So we went to Mass, took showers and were running out of daylight. So we stopped by a pizza place, talked a young guy (Matt) into delivering it out to the campground. The campground was poor and we had to set up in the dark. Not a good evening!

Love, Paula
