July 15, 2000 Hi Brenda & Bill, 42 miles, Pine Creek, Ore. to Cambridge, Ida. The Hillside B&B near Oxbow turned out to be a lot better than first impressions. We talked to the owner, Judy Lee [Parker], after supper. Her husband is very sick, she runs the B&B, and has 7 kids, 32 grandkids. All close their businesses and come home for the month of Dec. Which is why she has so many bedrooms. This AM, we helped her get cows back in the fence and she served us a HUGE gourmet breakfast. It was excellent! Then we had a short day — 42 miles. We finished Oregon — a great state for cycling. We climbed 13 miles by the Snake River and Brownlee reservoir. Duc and I got a flat from burrs, then a blowout on the downhill. Thank goodness we weren't going 40 mph. I thought someone had shot a gun. We are out of tubes and have ruined both tires. We had an extra tire and borrowed the second from Don and MM. We need a bike shop — badly. Maybe 2 more days 'til we get to one. We had cloud cover and a pleasant tail wind today. A few days ago, locals said it was 104 degrees in the shade but probably mid-80s today. A great ride! Cambridge is small. Did laundry. Staying at Bucky's Motel. Has a total of 3 rooms. Sitting out on the patio. Last night at the B&B, we watched the moon rise over the mountains. Beautiful full moon. Love, Paula. |
