July 18, 2000 Hi Brenda & Bill, 115 miles, Grangeville to Powell, Ida. What a long day! I don't plan on ever doing a century again packed down. I am beat! We left Grangeville at 5:30 AM and got to Lochsa Lodge (which IS the whole of Powell) at 7:00 PM. Good points of the day: we finished!; we are staying in a brand new log cabin; we had cloud cover in the AM and the mountains blocked the sun usually in the PM; we followed the beautiful Clearwater and Lochsa Rivers for about 100 miles; we even got a chance to wade in a bit; it was a very gradual uphill most of the day so it wasn't a real difficult ride. Bad points of the day: it was 115 (!) miles; the road was narrow with semi trucks somewhat regularly (though not as bad as we feared); it was 115 (!) miles; the last 65 miles had no services — no water, food, etc. We carried extra and were glad we did. Love, Paula. |
