Dear Grandmama,

73 miles from Aurora to David City. It seems we always battling some element of nature. First it was the mountains. Then it was that awful wind. Now it’s the heat. Close to 100°. As long as we are moving, it’s not too bad. But it weighs on you. We got in about 2:30 and it was too hot to do anything. We are camping again at the city park next to the public swimming pool. It’s a nice little system these small towns have for free camping. Showers aren’t great or private but they are showers nonetheless. We slowly walked to the town square for dinner and watched Jeopardy and the news while we ate. Now we are just waiting for the sun to go down. Met a guy at breakfast from Illinois who came to Louisville for farm equipment conventions. He talked a long time. When we left, he gave us his card and asked us to write when we get home so he’d know we made it safely.

Love, Paula
