July 19, 2000 Hi Brenda & Bill, 55 miles, Powell, Ida., to Missoula, Mont. We slept in today til 8:00. Usually we are on the road by 6:00 but we all needed the extra sleep after the long day yesterday. Today was pretty easy — we had a good climb early to Lolo Pass but pretty much downhill from there. At Lolo Pass we crossed into Montana. There was a thunderstorm on the mountain but it rained on the other side before we got there. Got wet from the spray and it dropped about 20 degrees but we did OK. We stopped for lunch in Lolo and when we started into Missoula, we got caught in another thunderstorm. We stopped on a street corner in the rain to get our bearings and Duc enlightened us with the fact that in the AM, we go back to Lolo. The rest of us hadn't studied the map and were a little perturbed. If someone had taken a picture of the 4 of us in the rain, Duc pointing back to Lolo and the other 3 of us with our mouths hanging open ... it wasn't funny until much later. Love, Paula.
