July 22, 2000 Hi Brenda & Bill, 49 miles, Jackson to Dillon, Mont. Today, we slept in til 7:30 since the restaurant didn't open until 8:00 and we had a short day. The Jackson Lodge was different. A nice large wooden room but around the bottom of the walls were PVC pipes through which the hot spring water flowed radiating heat. So we left all the windows opened and even though in the low 40s probably, we stayed comfortable. Even the toilet had hot water in it. Had very little cool water out of the faucet. We had 2 smaller climbs today between the Big Hole Valley and the Beaverhead Valley. The first climb, though, was gravel and headwind. Not fun. There were no services between Jackson and Dillon but we did OK without. Dillon is a nice town of about 1000. Had a good dinner. There was a craft fair going on. I talked to a guy selling some interesting fossils — dinosaurs, trilobites, etc. We called the boys this morning from Jackson. They are happy to be home. Can't wait to see them. Love, Paula. |
