July 24, 2000 Hi Brenda & Bill, 73 miles, Ennis to West Yellowstone, Mont. — 1182.2 miles total Well we did it — we have now ridden our tandem across the United States. What an adventure! I'm glad it's over but also sorry it's over. We left Ennis about 7 AM. A nice motel. Duc and I walked down and sat by the Madison River last night, then sat outside our rooms and talked to the Williamses and the owner, Dick, until late. This morning we had 13 miles of construction, gravel, bad roads. Took us 2 hours to get through it. We had one flat and the Williamses had 2 flats. After we got through that, we stopped for lunch, one bathroom stop, and flew into W. Yellowstone. Beautiful scenery around Quake Lake. Saw a bald eagle. When we got into town, we were whooping and hollering. Mom and Dad and Mary Margaret's parents were waiting. Took lots of photos. What a great ending. Right down the street from the gas station we started at 10 years ago. Holding back the tears, we hugged MM and Don goodbye. We'll see them at Christmas. Wonderful traveling companions. Then into the van. We drove through Yellowstone to Cody exchanging stories with Mom and Dad. Love, Paula. |
